Last week in Vadim, WTF! part 2 I talked about how real thinking happens when you write, not when you think.
Consistency compounds
Something happens in you when you deliver on promises you made to yourself. Especially, if they are really hard. The internet is full of people saying that doing hard things, is good for you. And it’s true—it does something to your psyche that almost nothing else comes close to.
Doing hard things, is not just about the magnitude of the action, but also the consistency of the action. Consistency is the mother of all talents. And the best thing about it is that you choose every day to be consistent or not.
This past week, I was pretty consistent with my running. I was not consistent with my other activities. I did put in more hours, but the output was not there.
Elon Musk has this saying “A maniacal sense of urgency is our operating principle,” I think in life you should approach everything that you do with urgency and focus. I can’t say I’ve been good at it, but I’m actively trying to improve myself, to work with urgency, and realizing that life is short. And if I stand any chance of accomplishing the grandiose goals, that I want to accomplish, I need to start operating with that mantra, with everything that I do.
What actually moved
I created a MacOS app that shows your most popular shell command from the status bar. It’s not public yet, but it will be soon.
There’s something that happens to you when you release something to the world. It’s as if you tell yourself: this is me proving that I am who I say I am. Not with words, but with actions. Let the world judge it.
The Takeaway
I watched this documentary: The Thinking Game which I highly recommend you watch. And that reminded me not to take my sweet ass time. Life is short, and you only have so much time to accomplish what you plan to accomplish. Especially, if you’re planning anything ambitious in life. So you better start moving fast and just increase the speed from there.
